Telecoms Case Study
We were approached by a US based telecoms company who were looking for a UK manufacturer to create a component for the electrical cable industry.
Original designs and an outline material specification were sent by the customer. Discussions on the manufacture of the component and commercial aspects were carried out using a series of conference calls and emails to ensure production would be as cost effective as possible.
A “design for manufacture” study was undertaken on the component, in conjunction with the tool designer, and recommendations were made which led to a component design modification. This made the tooling more robust whilst ensuring the functionality of the component was not compromised.
Due to the quantities involved an 8 impression tool with a hot manifold feed system was the choice of tooling. During design and manufacture regular tooling updates were given throughout the process, and the tool was delivered on time and on cost.
Initial trials were undertaken to confirm component dimensions. Following the approval of the component dimensionally further trials were undertaken with several grades of the specified material to determine which gave the optimum mechanical performance for the component.
The part is now running successfully in production.
