Automotive Case Study

Tyne Valley Plastics were asked to reverse engineer a worm gear by customer from the automotive industry as the component was no longer available from previous supplier. The material specification was a high temperature carbon fibre reinforced engineering material.

We managed the project from start to finish for the customer with the only input required from them being the approval of CAD models, the rapid prototype and final product.

Steps taken
  • We engaged a “partner” design company to generate a 3D CAD model of the component.
  • We arranged for rapid prototype to check dimensions.
  • We had tooling manufactured (metal safe) to make the part.
  • Components dimensionally checked against originals and fine adjustment of tooling made to bring component into tolerance.

The Actuator Worm Gear is now successfully in production in the automotive industry.
